Description
Key benefit for an insulation tube
Softlon is a physically cross-linked, closed-cell polyolefin foam, which is what gives it its excellent thermal insulation properties. The key features that contribute to its performance are:
- Low Thermal Conductivity: Softlon has a very low thermal conductivity, which is a measure of how well a material conducts heat. Values for different grades of Softlon typically range from 0.032 to 0.035 W/mK. This low value means that it is highly effective at preventing heat transfer.
- Closed-Cell Structure: The foam is made of individual, sealed air bubbles that are not connected. This structure minimizes convection (the movement of heat through a fluid) within the material, which is a major contributor to heat loss. This also prevents water absorption, which would compromise the insulation properties.
Wide Temperature Resistance: Softlon can withstand a wide range of temperatures, from as low as -80°C to as high as 120°C, making it suitable for both heating and cooling applications, such as for refrigeration pipes in air-conditioning units.
